One of the new faces of modern music in India, Vivian Fernandes aka DIVINE is a rapper, one of the foremost proponents of the ‘gully rap’ movement that is currently a rage across the country. His meteoric rise to national fame from slums of Mumbai is the subject of Zoya Akhtar’s latest movie, Gully Boy, a film based on the lives of DIVINE and fellow rapper and collaborator, Naezy. His honest portrayals of life on the streets, along with hard-hitting lyrics have turned him from a cult favourite to a national star with his outfit, GULLY GANG. Today he has several achievements to his credit – from his ‘Jungli Sher’ becoming the first Indian single to be released by Apple Music worldwide, to performing at the prestigious BBC Asian Network Live at Apollo. He has collaborated with top artists such as Nucleya & Nas, and is set to release his debut album in April 2019 – just in time to warm up Gaana Music Festival’s audience!
